I feel like a jerk-off for not posting in so long but whatever. Things have been busy. My fashion isn't really that up to date either, but I've been reading about the top trends for fall 2011 and they kind of suck.
1. Peplum- Okay, but not everyone can rock it because it does make the hips look wider and that's not always a good thing.
2. Colored jeans- Ew, no. That's it.
3. Plaid & Polka dot- Always in style. Boring.
4. Camo- horrible. I havent worn camo since 2004.
5. Color blocking- Awesome.
6. Mustard yellow, rusty orange, jade green- These don't seem like the coolest colors ever, but I don't hate them.
Dont really think I'm going to be too stylish this season. Oh well.

white jeans are cool again
According to Seventeen Magazine, white jeans are back in style even after Labor Day. I'm worried about this so called "trend". I hope it doesn't stick around for long. I just find them troublesome and not worth the effort.
Anyway the IFB Project Weekly Roundup is What's In Your Purse? and I thought I might take a crack at it. I've got the following

what to put my things in
I know I said that usually I buy my school bags from Lulus because I really like their selections, but this year I have to mix things because I absolutely adore the bags from Urban Outfitters. Buying bags for school is always an incredibly long process. I visit every store, every web site, every thrift store in town because if I don't buy a bag that I absolutely adore I end up shelling out another hundred to replace it mid semester.
The qualifications are as follows: large enough to carry all my school supplies and frivolous items, but small enough so that it doesn't make things extremely awkward in the insanely crowded hallways of my high school. And of course it has to be stylish enough to go with every outfit no matter what.
For the last two semesters I've bought hobo bags, totes, messenger bags, and purse. This year I'm thinking rucksack (preferably fur or corduroys) because I haven't actually carried a
backpack since I was twelve and it'd be a nice change of pace.
Here are a few of my favorites from Urban Outfitters.

only eighteen more days of summer left
I know that counting down like this is going to reek havoc on my current mental condition, but I really can't help it. I just got back from a brilliant five day stay in Las Vegas and I'm already hating being back to my boring/mundane everyday life.
I loved Las Vegas because 1) everywhere you go it's about seventy degrees inside 2) your day doesn't really start until about five o'clock 3) you can shut all the curtains in your hotel room and sleep until four and it's totally acceptable.
The shopping is fantastic -all those designer stores that I really can't afford to go to, but browse in anyway. And of course the night scene is exciting even though I'm not really old enough to enjoy it (boo!).
We took in a few very excellent shows so if you are going to Vegas anytime soon I suggest you see The Lion King while it's still in production (it was really lovely) and the Cirque du Soleil show Ka! (a little hard to follow, but still incredibly cool and the cast is very talented).

back to back
Just had to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse. Her music was fantastic and it's absolutely tragic that she died so young. I really thought she was on her way to a comeback this year.

late to the party, as usual
I think first saw these feather hair extensions on Lucy Hales character Aria on Pretty Little Liars a few episodes back. I'm sure they've been out for a awhile and I'm way behind the trend. I think they're a bit kooky, but still pretty cute if you like to rock the boho-chic, artsy thing. I love Aria's sense of fashion (she's second to Spencer) so I think it works very nicely on her. I just hope this doesn't become tacky and overdone.
I think the natural looking one's look much prettier. If you want a hot pink feather in your hair, just buy a hot pink hair extension. |

oh, so very
The best worst 80's movie has got to be Heathers. I've always loved the outrageously wicked black comedy and it's one of those movies you just have to see.

auto-magically
Hmph. I've been contemplating this for a while but I've finally made a decision. I've had the same music library since I turn thirteen and got my first iPod (three whole years ago). Now here I am sixteen with a brand spanking new (used) iPhone 3G and I still haven't bothered to get rid of incredibly strange mix of gangsta rap and screamo alternative that I was so in love with back in seventh grade. I'm a complete pack rat ( seriously I've still got my Chuck Taylor's from fifth grade).
So now I'm simultaneously typing this and deleting all the trashy tunes I don't listen to. Over 3,500 songs and I listen to the same eighteen repeatedly. Replacing Tyga, My Chemical Romance and Scary Kids Scaring Kids will be my new indie-folk favourites: Florence + the machine, Arctic Monkeys, Band of Horses, and Duffy.
Since music is the theme of the day, I ought to mention all the music events I'm dying to attend this summer.
1) Lollapalooza of course, is number one. It's hosted by founder Perry Ferrel of Jane's Addiction in Chicago for three days and I've always wanted to go.
2) The iTunes Music Festival which is currently going on in London and will continue until the 31st.
3) Warped Tour which is a traveling show and the bands go city to city performing every year. The next show is only a few hours from where I live so this one might actually happen (!).

excuse me for a second
I just have to take a minute to let out my inner fangirl. Four years ago when Disney Channel debuted its newest hit Wizards of Waverly Place I had serious doubts.
It was another typical Disney Channel Show: a snarky female tween lead, her annoying brothers (both of which would stay the same height while she grew taller each passing season), and the ever present magic theme that needed to be tied into every episode.
I was, of course, completely accurate in my assessment and the show ran straight for the past four years. But now Miss Selena Gomez has gone from Disney's newest It Girl to Americas Sweet Heart. She's even dating Americas Boyfriend Justin Beiber (insert squeal here!).
Her latest single "Who Says"from the album When the Sun Goes Down by Selena Gomez & the Scene is actually really wonderful.
In addition to her blossoming music career she's go the lead role in the romantic comedy Monte Carlo. Now thats she's ditched the Disney duds and started pursuing an actual career I may have to start taking Miss Gomez more seriously.

scene kids are seen kids
Because I still refuse to mention the name of the town I live in this will be alarmingly vague. Somewhere in Southern California there was a fantastic gathering of all the alternative scream bands that you've never heard of.
From Anarbor (love!) to A Day to Remember it was the annual concert that has the teens Of my town bouncing off the walls even more than usual. Even I, a usually conservative, incredibly snarky fashionista donned the heavy black eyeliner and vintage Strokes t-shirt for a day of live music and unhealthy snacks.
Tickets were a steep thirty five dollars for a two day pass therefore I absolutely refused to pay and a cheaper (free) way to get in. All in all it was a great time (though slightly dangerous) and I look forward to next year.

long and lovely
I'm looking for a good pattern online, but no such luck. I might just have to make my own which won't easy, but I've got time now because it's summer (yay!).
I'm going to be doing a loooot of projects now because I really want to improve my fashion portfolio. I'll definitely be posting more soon.

im knocking off this skirt!
Not the nasty water color tribal print, probably something in a sea blue or turquoise.
I got my elastic from the Mood fabric store in LA (think Project Runway, but West Coast) its black with a blue, pink, and green rose pattern on it.
I'm thinking of using a black satin lining and lace trim, but that sounds a little gaudy so maybe just a white cotton lining and a neat hem?
Let me know what you think!

Why is it that Lulus makes the best bags around? Surfing the web, as usual, I was stuck on Lulus for about an hour.
(beyond cute!)
I've gotten almost all my school purses from Lulu's and a few party dresses as well. It's great. Affordable, and classically pretty. And unlike Forever 21 not absolutely everyone else in town shops there.

summer time lovin, lovin in the summer time
It's MAY. Finally! The best month of the entire year is upon us. What does this mean?
FLIP FLOPS ARE FINALLY ACCEPTABLE!
My very impractical/chic/never gonna happen choice would be these gorgeous ninety five dollar D&G logo flip flops.
Cute? Yes. Possible? Not on my budget :(
p.s. Did you hear about Osama Bin Laden? Score for Team Obama! I smell a re-election!
FLIP FLOPS ARE FINALLY ACCEPTABLE!
And while it may seem cuh-razy to dedicate an entire post to flip-flops, I really can't help myself. From Chinese descent, flip-flops (also referred to as thong sandals, zories, slip slaps, thongs, pluggers, toesies, jandals or slippers) are probably the most comfortable shoe known to man.
These (to the left) are from American Eagle Outfitters and I absolutely adore them. They're faux-leather, with an intricate braided silhouette and they come in Mauce Glow, White, and Mushroom.
These are my first very practical/stylish/affordable choice for new summer shoes.

Mary-Kate has always been my favorite Olsen. I think its becaus eof her name.
Anyhow isn't it incredible to see what huge fashion moguls they are today?
It feels like just yeasterday I was watching them on Full House (dreadful show), and now they're selling seven thousdand dollar coats at Barneys.
Its madness.

by the bolt
Messenger bags were similar to the fugly burlap sacks most mailmen (or mail women) use to haul around the loads.
Now they're more urbanized and chic (like the camel colored Prada messenger on the left).
I've been surfing the net (surprise, surprise) for the past hour desperately trying to find some kind of inspiration. I want my back to be reversible, with maybe two adjustable straps instead of one, and a circular flap embellished with fabric flower petals.
The fabric is a pretty shade of ivory, with a few messy french scribbles and some soft looking pale pink roses. My lining is white with an interesting Indian/native looking pattern in dark navy.
The bag will be pretty (I'm sure) but I was hoping for some dazzling design ideas. Any advice?

femme fatale
So Britney Spears' seventh album Femme Fatale was released on March 25th, 2011.
Because I am so dangerously low on funds I just bought that CD last Friday. It was absolutely fantastic.
Of course "Hold it Against Me" and "Till the World Ends" are big hits but, I think all the non-popular tracks were really good too.
It's one of the best albums I've bought in a while. Britney's comeback has been great so far and hopefully she continues to make excellent music to delight the ears of her fans.

stumbled upon
Looking for croquis when I found this pic on this site. Th author posted that it was done by the brilliant Bob Mackie (the sultan of sequins, the rajah of rhinestones) whom I absolutely adore! Everything he makes is a work of art. Obviously he also influenced the author as well. These sketches (left) are gorgeous. I love it when fashionistas post about they're real jobs in the real world. It gives all the young, budding, dreamers (like me) hope for a fashion filled future. I'll probably take a day to scroll through her words of wondrous wisdom and enlighten myself. Anyone who gets to work that closely with Bob Mackie is important to me. The link should be up on mylist pretty soon.

how about something fabulous?
It's really easy and takes about twenty minutes to make one.
We've been working on embellishing too so most of mine are covered in buttons, flowers, yo-yos, and rhinestones.
The pattern is simple enough and I found this one that is really similar to what we've been doing.
Drafting it very simple, as long as you know your dimensions.
I'm really into hair accessories for spring this year.

also known as the pagri
I'm actually incredibley excited to hear that turbans are in for spring 2011. As far as hair accessories go they're one of my very favorties.
It's a middle east/tough girl/pirate chic/tropical kind of style that works on nearly everyone and adds a nice twist to most looks. Also: can salvage most bad hair days.
Turbans will probably be my favorite trend this season and I'm determined to make one as soon as I can find a decnt pattern. And maybe silk fabric in a shade of honeysuckle pink. . . . .one of the trendiest colors of the spring!

English Folk Music- Mumford and Sons
So I've heard of Mumford & Sons- who hasn't?- but their latest hit, The Cave is so suprisingly wonderful I had to double take. I adored their last song Little Lion Man, as well. With two hits no misses I might just have to give in and fork over $15 for their album.
